Daily Prayer
The Word for wisdom:
Proverbs 27:6 (HCSB)
The wounds of a friend are trustworthy, but the kisses of an enemy are excessive.
Proverbs 27:12 (HCSB)
A sensible person sees danger and takes cover; the inexperienced keep going and are punished.
The Word for inspiration:
Psalm 129:1-8 (HCSB)
1 Since my youth they have often attacked me— let Israel say— 2 Since my youth they have often attacked me, but they have not prevailed against me. 3 Plowmen plowed over my back; they made their furrows long. 4 The Lord is righteous; He has cut the ropes of the wicked. 5 Let all who hate Zion be driven back in disgrace. 6 Let them be like grass on the rooftops, which withers before it grows up 7 and can’t even fill the hands of the reaper or the arms of the one who binds sheaves. 8 Then none who pass by will say, “May the Lord’s blessing be on you.” We bless you in the name of Yahweh.
My observation:
One of the abiding truths of scripture is that God provides, protects, and cares for his people. As one of the Songs of Ascents, this Psalm is a song of the community of pilgrims as they made their journey up to Jerusalem to the place of worship.
This Psalm is a reminder to never forget where the Lord has brought you from. When I look back over my life I see the handprints and the footprints of God everywhere.
There is also within this Psalm an expression of the continuing need for the Lord in the remaining journey of the pilgrim.
God’s provisions, protections and care should cause the community of God’s people to never forget their need for the Lord. We can count on the Lord always being there for his people. Can he count on me to always be there for him?
My prayer:
Our Father in heaven, my dear Father, I am so thankful for the confidence I can have in the God who provides for his people.
Father God, it matters not the size of the foes that your people face, the one that is for us is always greater than the foe that is against us.
My song:
In the Church of Jesus there is Love for You (Click on link below for lyrics and midi):
