The Value & Blessing of Working Together

Text:

Ephesians 4:16 (HCSB)

16  From Him the whole body, fitted and knit together by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth of the body for building up itself in love by the proper working of each individual part.

Observation:

There is nothing more productive and enjoyable than woking together with members of the Body of Christ doing the work of God. Notice who we should keep our eyes on, and who we should follow.

Colossians 2:6-7 (HCSB)

6  Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him,

7  rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with gratitude.

Jesus is the hope that the Body of Christ can stand upon as we work together to advance the Kingdom of God.

The hymn writer said it this way:

“My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;

All other ground is sinking sand,

All other ground is sinking sand.”

The Word of God says it this way:

Colossians 2:6-7 (HCSB)

6  Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him,

7  rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, overflowing with gratitude.

Prayer:

Father, I am so thankful for the hope that we have in Jesus, who is the solid rock on which we can stand as we walk in the footsteps of our Savior.

Father, I thank You for the promise that in Christ alone we have all that we need to walk in the light and love of the Lord. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

My One Word Goal for 2016 – First

Text:

Matthew 6:33 (HCSB)

33  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.

Observation:

I did not select my one word goal for this year. Rather, it found me. I considered a long list of words, but this one captured my heart.

I was looking for a word that would be a worthy goal, and also for one that would make a huge difference in my life if I was able to accomplish it. Additionally, it had to be achievable.

The verse that I am using for the text today is the word that God used to touch my heart, and convince me that first was my word for 2016.

In the first week of this year God has used the Word & Prayer to cement this word in my heart. During the week God spoke to me at the end of the week with this word.

Psalm 119:1-3 (ESV)

1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD!

2  Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,

3  who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways!

The FIRST thing for me this year will be to seek the Lord with my whole heart.

This fits in so well with my Life Goal, which is to PLEASE GOD. The Lord used this verse to speak into my heart.

Psalm 119:10 (ESV)

10  With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!

My greatest and first desire is to be seen by God the way he saw David; not the way he saw Saul.

1 Samuel 15:22-23 (ESV)

22  And Samuel said, “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.

23  For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.”

Prayer:

Father, I thank You for the love and forgiveness that You have for your people.

Father, I ask that each of us would decide in our hearts that we are going to put of first importance doing that one thing that we can do that will be pleasing in Your eyes; to give to You our whole heart.

Father, convict and convince us, by the Holy Spirit, that surrender is the pathway to freedom in Christ. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Members of Every Generation Are Valued

Text:

Acts 2:17 (NLT)

17  ‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.

Observation:

The central truth in this passage should be the focus of our life, and the energy that empowers our worship and our work in doing the will God.

Notice this significant declaration of the Lord, “I will pour out my Spirit upon all people”.

The unfinished work of God is the building on earth of the kingdom of God; on earth as it is in heaven. That is the work of the church, and that work is the office work of the Holy Spirit who lives in the hearts of God’s people; the church.

The work of the church is the work of the young and the old; it combines the wisdom of the old with the energy and enthusiasm of the young. Let us come together, and complete this unfinished work, and usher in the return of the King of kings, and Lord of lords; His name is Jesus.

2 Peter 3:8-9 (HCSB)

8  Dear friends, don’t let this one thing escape you: With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.

9  The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.

What is the next step in knowing and doing the will of God?

Colossians 2:6 (HCSB)

6  Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him,

1 Thessalonians 4:1 (NLT)

1  Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more.

Prayer:

Father, help us to learn how to live in these last days; the days between your ascension and the day of your second coming. Father, help us rely upon Your wisdom and strength.

Father, help us to never forget that You have given us everything we need to do Your will. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Psalm 23:1 (HCSB)

1 The LORD is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
