My Prayer for America_ Part 4 of 4

Title: What will it take to Have Revival in America?

Text:

2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV)
14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Observation:

If we are to have revival in America, we must meet God’s conditions for revival. It begins with humility, continues with prayer and seeking the face of God. The final step is to turn from our wicked ways. God loves us to much to leave us the way we are.

 Isaiah 55:7 (HCSB)
7 Let the wicked one abandon his way and the sinful one his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, so He may have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will freely forgive.

Prayer:

Father God, merciful Father, you have done everything for us. In your mercy and grace, give us the desire to turn from our wicked ways in our hearts, and the power to fulfill that desire. Father, heal our land, and let it begin in me. Amen.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV)

Observation:

It we are to have revival in America, we must meet God’s conditions for revival. It begins with humility and prayer. The next step to the healing of our land is for God’s people to seek the face of God.

Many are willing to open their hands to receive God’s blessings, but God loves us so much that he desires our presence with him. He wants some face time; not just quality time, but quantity time with his people. Will you accept his invitation to seek his face?

Matthew 11:28 (HCSB)
28 “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Prayer:

Sovereign God, Holy Father, you are so holy and so righteous that we feel so unworthy to be in your presence.

Father God, the only way that we can come to you is to come by the way of the cross. Father, I come to you, I seek your face claiming access by the precious and royal blood of Jesus. Amen.

I see in this text a starting point for the healing of America. Humility is the first step on the journey that leads to the promise land of blessing. The next step along that journey, and closely linked to it is prayer. We cannot get to where we want to go unless we pray.

Who is to pray, and where should prayer start? The text tells us who, “If my people who are called by my name”.

Where should prayer begin? The bible also tells us the answer to this question.

Matthew 21:13 (HCSB)
13 And He said to them, “It is written, My house will be called a house of prayer. But you are making it a den of thieves!”

It will take unceasing prayer by God’s people in God’s house, and in our homes, to get us to the place where God can heal our land.

“O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer” – – Joseph M. Scriven

Prayer:

Father God, Sovereign Lord, grant us by your almighty power the grace gift of a burning desire to become people who will not just preach and talk about prayer, but will bow the knee and pray until you heal our land. Amen.

One of the conditions for revival is for God’s people to humble themselves. This is not an appeal to the Government. Rather, it is an appeal to God’s people.

The word of God says, “If my people”. In your heart, child of God, do you sincerely want to please God? If so, then humble yourself before God in prayer.

Trials and temptations are the common lot of all. The good news is that God will give his people sufficient grace in every circumstance.

James 4:6 (ESV)
6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Would you be willing to join with me in prayer for humility among God’s people that would result in God healing our nation?

“Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.”  — Joseph M. Scriven

Prayer:

Our Father in heaven, my dear Father, by your divine power, will you create a burning desire in the hearts of your believing people to humble ourselves at the feet of our almighty heavenly Father. In Jesus name, Amen.
