Daily Devotional

The Word of God says:

Psalms 114:1-8 (NASB77) 1 When Israel went forth from Egypt, The house of Jacob from a people of strange language,2 Judah became His sanctuary, Israel, His dominion.3 The sea looked and fled; The Jordan turned back.4 The mountains skipped like rams, The hills, like lambs.5 What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back?6 O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs?7 Tremble, O earth, before the Lord, Before the God of Jacob,8 Who turned the rock into a pool of water, The flint into a fountain of water.

My reflections on the Word of God:

This psalm is a celebration of the mighty works that God performed in delivering His people from Egyptian slavery. The recitation of the history of God’s provisions and protection of His people teaches future generations that there is nothing that can keep them from achieving God’s purposes if they remain faithful to Him.

Today’s focal passage has a message that is applicable to His people of any age. There is no mountain high enough, and no sea powerful enough to thwart the purposes of God for our lives. The only things that can hinder God’s work in our lives are sin and unbelief. God is willing and able to help us if we will trust and obey Him.

My prayer in response to the Word of God:

Our Father in heaven, I praise and thank You for the provisions and the protection that You provide for Your people. Lord, I thank You that the child of God has the assurance that we never have to face the mountains and raging waters of the troubled sea alone, but that the might power of God is always available to deliver us. Lord, help us to remember Your history of dealing with Your people, and to joyfully celebrate that history.
