God Speaks – Hear The Word of God

The Wisdom of the Proverbs:

Proverbs 28:20 (NLT)

The trustworthy person will get a rich reward, but a person who wants quick riches will get into trouble.

The Encouragement of the Psalms:

Psalm 119:113-114 (NLT)

I hate those with divided loyalties, but I love your instructions.

You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope.

The Hope of the Old Testament:

Daniel 5:7-8 (NLT)

The king shouted for the enchanters, astrologers, and fortune-tellers to be brought before him. He said to these wise men of Babylon, “Whoever can read this writing and tell me what it means will be dressed in purple robes of royal honor and will have a gold chain placed around his neck. He will become the third highest ruler in the kingdom!”

But when all the king’s wise men had come in, none of them could read the writing or tell him what it meant.

The Gospel Message:

2 Peter 2:1 (NLT)

But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves.

Observation:

Every generation needs to be aware of the presence of false teachers. They use the tool of deception. However, you can discern them by knowing the Word of God. The Holy Spirit of God will guide you and give you discernment to recognize error when you see it.

You will be able to spot their lies and promises that they have no intention or ability to fulfill.

2 Peter 2:18-19 (NLT)

They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With an appeal to twisted sexual desires, they lure back into sin those who have barely escaped from a lifestyle of deception.

They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.

Prayer:

Father, hallowed be Your name. Father, help us to discern truth from error, and help us to see, and come under the covering and care of the Good Shepherd.

John 10:27-28 (KJV)

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

1 Samuel 3:10 (NLT)
10  And the LORD came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.”

What Makes You Cry?

Text:

Philippians 3:18-21 (HCSB)

18  For I have often told you, and now say again with tears, that many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.

19  Their end is destruction; their god is their stomach; their glory is in their shame. They are focused on earthly things,

20  but our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

21  He will transform the body of our humble condition into the likeness of His glorious body, by the power that enables Him to subject everything to Himself.

Observation:

Yesterday was a day that some tears were shed in my family. However, in this case it was tears of joy for the entrance of a second great grand child into our family.

The house is empty for a brief period of time, and I have a chance to get alone with my heavenly Father.

As I read the focal passage for today I was moved when I read in verse eighteen that the Apostle Paul cried. It got me to thinking about the things that cause us to cry. What caused Paul to cry were the false teachers.

One of the ways you can distinguish between genuine Christ followers, and false teachers is how they view themselves. False teachers have an inflated view of themselves.

Philippians 3:3 (HCSB)

3  For we are the circumcision, the ones who serve by the Spirit of God, boast in Christ Jesus, and do not put confidence in the flesh—

We are in good company when we shed a tear; especially when is for others. Jesus cried because of the death of a friend.

John 11:35-36 (HCSB)

35  Jesus wept.

36  So the Jews said, “See how He loved him!”

Prayer:

Father, hallowed be Your name. Father, I pray that You will give each of us a compassionate heart; a heart that will move us to tears for others. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
