Are You Running With Endurance?

Text:

Hebrews 12:1-3 (HCSB)

1  Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us,

2  keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.

3  For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, so that you won’t grow weary and lose heart.

Observation:

What are the obstacles that we have to overcome to run with endurance? I’m talking about running the race of life to win; to finish, and receive the crown.

This is a list, not exhaustive, that reminds us of some of the things that hinder the running to win in the race of life.

  • Discouragement
  • Disappointment
  • Distraction
  • Obstacles
  • Opposition
  • Oppression

We need to remember what Jesus said about living in the world.

John 16:33 (ESV)

33  I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

What Jesus told His disciples is so important for Christ followers today. He said that He has overcome the world. He also said another word with a promise.

John 14:27 (ESV)

27  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

The peace and the power to run with endurance is in the person of our Christ; it is in Jesus. Does Christ live in you?

In conclusion, let us do what the writer of Hebrews admonishes the readers to do. Let us look to Jesus, and let us consider what He went through to finish His purpose for coming into the world.

My prayer is that each of you will be able to say what the Apostle Paul said to Timothy.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 (HCSB)

7  I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

8  There is reserved for me in the future the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me, but to all those who have loved His appearing.

Prayer:

Father, hallowed be your name. Father, I am so grateful for Your amazing love, the gift of faith that enable me to believe in Jesus, and the hope that I have to live in your presence forever.

Father, I am so grateful that I don’t have to wait until I get to heaven to live in your presence; I can do it today. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

What Do You Need to Fulfill Your Purpose?

Text:

Philippians 1:1-2 (HCSB)

1  Paul and Timothy, slaves of Christ Jesus: To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, including the overseers and deacons.

2  Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Observation:

Today, I look back at three of my favorite verses from Philippians, and I have heard from some of you that one or more of them are your favorites also.

These verses will encourage you as you seek to be all that God created you to be. God’s purpose for your life is that you would bring glory to Him, and that you would be a blessing to others.

Philippians 4:11 (HCSB)

11  I don’t say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.

Philippians 4:13 (HCSB)

13  I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:19 (HCSB)

19  And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

In Christ, you can be who you are supposed to be, you can do what you are supposed to do, and you can have what you need to finish strong, and win the prize.

Philippians 1:6 (HCSB)

6  I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Prayer:

Father, I am so thankful for the purpose, potential, and power that You give to Your people to be who You made us to be, and to do what You want us to do.

Father, help us to remember that the victory comes when we look to You as the source for all of our needs. Lord, give us a faith that will not falter or fail; so that we will finish the race, and receive the prize. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
