How to Live A Balance and Satisfying Day That is Repeatable?

Today Somebody Prayed for You

Today’s Bowl of Encouragement by Herb Cotton

Bible Text for Today’s Meditation and Application:

Philippians 2:5 King James Version (KJV)

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

King James Version (KJV)

My Reflections on the Word of God Today:

This morning the first word that came to my consciousness was the word mind. I got up, and as I was looking in the mirror, I saw a notification popup from a friend.

I took the bait and read the notification and clicked on it to read the entire post. This friend wrote about this word, and I will paraphrase what she wrote and disclosed publicly.

“I’ve been in this deep wrestle in my mind and heart all morning.”

Wow! I said God is speaking to me through this post by a friend I know well; mostly at a distant, but also close up to a lesser degree. I remember her parents much better.

The critical point I want to stress in this devotional is that we need to pay attention to the battle that we all face. We meet it every day; the fight for our mind and heart and the enemies are the world, flesh and the devil; the chief emery of God and His children.

Since we know this to be true, we should do everything we know to do and do it in the strength of the Lord.

The key to being an overcomer is to do what Jesus told us to do and to follow His example by walking in the footprints of Jesus every day and all the day long.

To get the complete view, I refer you to the context for our discussion today for a more in-depth understanding of how to win the victory in your life over the battle for your mind. The Word of God has the answer, and it’s worth the time you spend getting dressed for victory. You are an overcomer; the answer is a click and a few minutes away.

Finally, I invite you to be encouraged by the last words of Jesus to His disciples and to all of His children who are Christ followers until He takes us home or His second coming.

John 16:33 King James Version (KJV)

33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Prayer Offered to Our Father in Heaven:

Father, we ask that You would tune our hearts to have the desire and discipline to guard our minds and our hearts to live in Your presence, walk daily in the Spirit and in the footprints of Jesus.

Father, help us to be more like Jesus everyday, and live the overcoming life through the wisdom and power of the Holy Spirit of God. Let the people of God say, Amen.

How Long Will My Troubles Last?

Bible Text for Today’s Meditation and Application:

Romans 8:18 King James Version (KJV)

18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

King James Version (KJV)

My Reflections on the Word of God Today:

All of us at one time or another will encounter trouble by living in the earth. That’s the way life is in the present world. God made us out of dirt, and we return to dust. But, God; O how I love the sweet sounds of those two words. Those words give the people of God hope for a bright future.

Let’s examine some of the promises of the God of the Word that is in the Word of God;

The Bible says:

1 Peter 5:10 King James Version (KJV)

10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

2 Corinthians 12:9 King James Version (KJV)

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

John 14:1 King James Version (KJV)

14 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

My dear friends of God and Christ followers, I urge you to never give up on putting your whole life in the hands of the LORD. Our Father in heaven will never let His children down.

Proverbs 3:5-7 King James Version (KJV)

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

Prayer Offered to Our Father in Heaven:

Our Father in heaven, we as Your people declare and decree that we will surrender all of life to You in exchange for all of You. Father, we have seen in recent testimony by Your children that You have been Jehovah Jireh in their lives at a time of overwhelming need.

Father, we believe that You don’t have favorites and that what You have done for others, You will do for us. Father, we believe You, and can’t live without You. So, we cry for Your children, Lord, help us we pray, in the name of Jesus, and with a grateful heart, we lean hard on Thee. Let the church say, Amen.

Isaiah 41:10 King James Version (KJV)

10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

The Reason Why The Child of God Is Never Alone

Text:

John 17:23-26 (ESV)

23  I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.

24  Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.

25  O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me.

26  I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

Observation:

Today the Lord is impressing upon my heart that we need to change the conversation. We need to agree with Jesus that He has already overcome the world (John 16:33). Notice this powerful prayer of Jesus in John 17; you can’t go wrong by following the example of Jesus.{ #prayfirst}

What we need to do more of is to do what we will be doing in heaven. We need to spend more time worshipping the Lord, and giving praise and thanks to Him. We need an attitude change; the Lord is the only one that can change lives.

We need to recommit ourselves to the Word of God, and prayer. We look again at why prayer is so important. Notice how Jesus prayed for you.

John 17:20-23 (ESV)

20  “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,

21  that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

22  The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,

23  I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.

Prayer:

Father, hallowed be Your name. Father, thank You for giving us the means of prayer to connect with You. Father, make us one people under You.

Father, help us to live a life of faith in You, and to have a heart that delights to worship You, and give You the praise and thanks that You deserve. Father, convict and convince us that when the praises and prayers go up, the blessings come down. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

The Power of God to Help You In Every Circumstance

Text:

Matthew 8:23-27 (HCSB)

23  As He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him.

24  Suddenly, a violent storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves. But He was sleeping.

25  So the disciples came and woke Him up, saying, “Lord, save ?us?! We’re going to die!”

26  But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, you of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea. And there was a great calm.

27  The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this?—even the winds and the sea obey Him!”

Observation:

One of the things that I observe about this incident, and I have experienced this is life, is that you can be doing what God told you to do, and you can still experience trouble. Luke points this out for us in the account he gives of this event.

Luke 8:22-23 (NLT)

22  One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and started out.

23  As they sailed across, Jesus settled down for a nap. But soon a fierce storm came down on the lake. The boat was filling with water, and they were in real danger.

We can live our lives with a great deal of confidence when Jesus is in the boat.

There is nothing that we will ever face in our life that is too big for the Lord to handle. Is Jesus living in your heart? Have you received Him?

John 1:12 (HCSB)

12  But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name,

When Jesus takes up residence in your life He gives the ironclad promise that He will never leave you or forsake you.

Hebrews 13:5 (ESV)

5  Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

When you trust in Jesus with your whole heart, you can say this with confidence, and assurance that Jesus will help you in all things; and all the time.

Hebrews 13:6 (NLT)

6  So we can say with confidence, “The LORD is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”

Prayer:

Father, I am so thankful for the promise of Jesus that He will never leave or forsake us.

Father, I am so grateful for the amazing grace of God that saves, and keeps sinners like me.

Father, I believe in Jesus, and I thank You for giving us the gift of faith that gives us access to the divine Godhead; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
